President’s message May 7, 2009
Well, the weeks and months come and go at what seems to be an ever-quickening pace. We’re so fortunate that we have The Bugle Boy to put all else on hold for a couple of hours every Friday and Saturday evening, while we immerse our brains, our senses, and our spirits in the positive and restorative qualities of some of the best music anywhere in the world.
I’m proud to share with you the news that the Bugle Boy Foundation has now been formally approved by IRS as a 501(c)3 public charity. While we were allowed to function as such from the time of our filing in November, now it’s 100% official. We achieved this in just 5 months, which is a notable accomplishment. Filings are way up, and this process can, and usually does, take much, much longer.
Being a public charity means that the Bugle Boy Foundation is not supported by only a handful of select individuals. It means that the foundation, and The Bugle Boy, are here to serve all of us, “the public”, and it means that in turn, the Bugle Boy Foundation is, and must be, supported by a broad base of friends, fans, and supporters. Everyone who ever enjoys the unique Bugle Boy experience, hearing these great artists’ songs in such a small, intimate, environment, becomes part of this whole endeavor. We can think of The Bugle Boy as the community living room, where there’s a house concert every weekend.
That said, we must provide adequate funds to keep our living room going, growing, and getting even better. The Bugle Boy Foundation needs everyone to contribute whatever you feel comfortable with. Every donation counts, and is immensely appreciated. As little as $25 helps out a lot. A donation of at least $100 qualifies you for a free 1-year subscription to Texas Music Magazine, where you can read about many of the artists who play at The BB, and you’ll enjoy seeing our great Bugle Boy ad in 4 consecutive issues this year. If you can step up and help out at a higher level, say $250 or $500, that would be even more wonderful. For a minimum donation of $300, you can sponsor and underwrite a concert. Some outstanding artists who have yet to build a large fan base in our area can benefit greatly from this sponsorship. At a higher level, of $1000 and up, we can return some of our favorites, whose careers now command more than they can expect to make in such a small venue from ticket sales alone, and we can book other artists who typically play larger venues than The Bugle Boy. Of course, all donations to the Bugle Boy Foundation are fully tax-deductible, less fair market value of any gift received.
Thank you for sharing this adventure with us. Your support is greatly appreciated! See you soon at The BB, and as always, BRING YOUR FRIENDS.
Warmest regards,
David Vogel Bugle Boy Foundation President http://www.thebugleboy.org
