THE BUGLE BOY TO BEGIN HOSTING SUNDAY PERFORMANCE SHOWCASES

The Bugle Boy will begin hosting SUNDAY PERFORMANCE SHOWCASES beginning in January 2008 for performing songwriters. National and statewide acts perform 2 songs each, with 3 finalists returning for a third song at the end of the afternoon for a chance to win a cash prize and a spot in our bi-annual BEST OF SHOWCASE CONCERT and for a GRAND PRIZE performance at THE BUGLE BOY’S  ANNIVERSARY SHOW in January 2009.   Performance showcases are sure to be well attended and are being hosted by Bugle Boy owner, Lane Gosnay.  This is a great opportunity for up and coming talent to hone their skills and for listeners to see and meet tomorrow's headliners. We are now taking sign ups for ALL performances.

Lane Gosnay, owner of The Bugle Boy hosts an afternoon PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE  as a forum for aspiring performing songwriters. Consisting of both state and national acts, performers have ten minutes each to make The Bugle Boy stage their own.  Each act performs two original songs, and a panel of judges chooses three finalists. These three are invited back to the stage at the end of the afternoon to perform one more song, and the judges select one performer that qualifies to perform at the Best Of Showcases.

Performers are judged in six different areas:
songwriting skills, vocal performance, playing ability, stage presence, entertainment skills and audience rapport.

Live recordings of a player's performance can be arranged with the sound engineer and made available to the player in mp3 format.
The cost is $5.

THE REWARDS
Sunday Showcase finalists receive a $50 cash prize and a slot in the Bi-Annual BEST OF SHOWCASE CONCERT .

The Bi-Annual BEST OF CONCERTS are held the first Saturday in June and the first Saturday in November. These concerts provide a rare opportunity for up-and-coming talent to showcase their music in front of a room of music fans and concert hosts.  In spite of the competitive premise of the event, we anticipate this to be a community building experience for all the songwriters involved. The SUNDAY SHOWCASES  are a catalyst for building great friendships, inspiring musical collaborations and spring boarding SHOWCASE WINNERS to the next level in their careers.

Bi-Annual BEST OF SHOWCASE FINALISTS receive $500 and are invited to perform a split bill show the following January for the venue’s heavily attended anniversary show.

THE RULES
There is a $5 cover per performer at the door.

Performers must confirm your slot by  emailing or calling 979-968-9944 by 5pm the Friday prior to your scheduled Sunday Showcase otherwise your slot will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

Performers must be checked in by 1pm.  Please allow for the proper amount of travel time.  Austin 60miles. Houston 90miles.   San Antonio 120miles.  Dallas 180+miles.  If you intend to stay overnight, please check out our “STAY OVERNIGHT” link.

Each act must be limited to three players per act.

No amps or effects are allowed (i.e., looping, pedals, fog machines, etc.). We provide vocal and instrument mics and direct input plugs for guitars.  Keyboardist should plan to use the Baby Grande piano on hand and you must advise us that you intend to use the piano when you sign up.

No full drum kits – only scaled down or hand-held percussion is allowed.
You must be able to set up within 2 minutes.

Because "playing ability" is a judging criteria, all music must be played live.  CD Accompaniment Tracks are not allowed.

NO PRE TUNING is allowed in the music hall.  You may step out of the Hall to tune during the performance of the act prior to your set.
ALL performers are highly encouraged to stay seated in the Hall during the performance of the other players.  Because The Bugle Boy is an “Extreme Listening Room” this limits distractions and gives each performer a true Bugle Boy performance experience.  So come prepared.  You will not have the opportunity to practice.

A WORD FROM LANE: 

I look forward to meeting and hearing each and every one of you.  After 3 years of growing The Bugle Boy, I have decided to dedicate certain Sundays of the month to host PERFORMANCE SHOWCASES.  Because of the high reputation that the venue has received in such a short time, I wanted to be able to offer the “Extreme Listening Room” experience to all aspiring performing songwriters.  This is a hard room to play if you have never experienced a highly attentive audience.  You do not have to try and get the attention of your audience in this room.  The attention of your audience is ALL on you.  Absolutely ZERO tolerance for talkers.
If you suffer from stage fright, you will learn to conquer it here, with us in a caring environment.  We are here to open up performance doors and allow you to experience your passion in an intimate respectful environment.
Lastly, I can not express how important stage presence and entertainment ability is.  This is a competitive business.  Many people can write and sing songs but to aspire to be a true entertainer should indeed be the goal.

You must sign up in advance by email to reserve your slot and you must confirm your slot by emailing or calling 979-968-9944 by 5pm the Friday prior to your scheduled Sunday Showcase otherwise your slot will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

Please be aware that you may be signing up for a showcase at least two months in advance.   Players may only be signed up for one future Sunday Showcase time slot at a time, but you are welcome to sign up on a standby list for several other dates. Keep in mind that many showcase players will book their next slot when they come in for their performance, so sign up soon for greater performance opportunity.

We are now taking sign ups for  ALL performances.
